Real-izing The Change You've Always Dreamed of ...

"The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn, the bird waits in the egg, and in the highest vision of the soul a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities." - James Allen

Lessons

Consultation and Specialty Lessons are tailor made to your specific interest.
Weekly Lessons begin with a First Time Lesson and continue with Follow-On Lessons.
Levels of Accomplishment are recognized for progression of skills, which can be further enhanced by attending weekly seminars.

  Consultation and Specialty Lessons

Have you got a particular area you would like to address? Perhaps it's rein contact, or getting a deeper seat, or aligning your shoulders, hips, and heel. Maybe you would like greater coordination of your aids, better lateral work, or quicker transitions. Whatever area of your riding you would like to specifically address, I will put together a lesson tailored to meet your needs. This lesson will include body work for you, awareness exercises, and time on your horse.

Depending upon your familiarity with Centered Riding concepts, one or more Consultation lessons may be necessary to achieve the result you desire.

  First Time Lesson

This lesson is a double lesson that introduces the concepts of Centered Riding® and Mind/Body Awareness, covers the basics of riding on the ground, and includes walk, shortening, lengthening, and halt on the lunge.

If you would like to take follow-on lessons and haven't had a chance to take a clinic with me, this will be the first step to take.

  Follow-On Lessons

Follow-On Lessons give you one on one attention and the luxury of a tailored approach to your learning. With Centered Riding®, movements and awareness exercises incorporating visualization and proprioception are experienced on the ground first, allowing you to move forward in your own timing. Since these exercises are often not found in riding lessons, all riding instruction at Satori Stables begins with private lessons. You can continue as long as you desire. These are usually more intensive lessons and can accelerate your learning.

Initial Instruction is done on a lunge line, in a private lesson. This allows you to pay attention to yourself -- as opposed to where the horse is going or what it is doing. If you have ridden before, this allows you the luxury of developing your feel for the motion of the horse. Lunging will be used whenever a new movement for you, the rider, is introduced, or whenever re-enforcement of a learned movement is required.

The Initial Lesson is a two hour Specialty Lesson that introduces the concepts of Centered Riding® and Mind/Body Awareness, covers the basics of riding on the ground, and includes walk, shortening, lengthening, and halt on the lunge.

The format of each lesson is:
go over the information from the previous lesson
un-mounted riding this is done on the ground, and is where new body movements are introduced. after having learned your body movement on the ground, it is easier to coordinate on top of the horse when the horse is moving.
mounted riding this is done with the horse. the movements practiced on the horse are now carried over to being on the horse, allowing you to build on what you already know.
review / discuss the lesson

  Satori Progression

The Levels of accomplishment and skill are recognized by the ability of clients to apply the Centered Riding Basics, the Satori Sequencing list, a following seat, and the communication for bend, direction, and combinations of bend and direction, during their riding. All students will learn how to ride on the flat; those who are interested in jumping will learn that as well.

The Core Concepts consist of:
the 4 Basics + Grounding
the 4 steps in the Satori Sequence
the motions of the gait, including following hands and legs
transitions up and down and timing of aids
modifying the motions of the gait - longer-lower, shorter-higher, and slower, faster
modifying the position of the horse - neutral, left, right
modifying the direction of the horse - straight ahead, sideways shallow (in both directions), sideways deep (in both directions), pivots, reverse
combining position & direction of the horse -  neutral, left, and right in the directions of straight ahead, sideways shallow, and sideways deep
applying the training scale
