Finding your inner wisdom...

There is deep wisdom within our very flesh,
if we can only come to our senses and feel it.

~ Elizabeth A. Behnke

What is Available to you

The aim of Body'work' is to bring you into a place of greater comfort and ease within your body so that you are able to communicate more clearly and effectively with your body and with your horse.  You'll learn how to trust your body to do the right thing, and learn how to trust yourself and your horse, too!

Your experience will be a blend of illustration, explanation, movement, and exploration.  You'll get new ideas about how to communicate with your body or your horse's body as well as techniques for discovering better ways to communicate for 'self-care' in between sessions.  The same would be true of the horse, although, you'll get the illustration & explanation!  The horse will get the experience and exploration through movement.

Without the Horse

Concepts of how the body works, understanding how your idea of how the body works affects how it works, and movement exploration will be used to free up your body.  This is not massage.  It's more like getting the instructions for how to communicate with your body to get the best results - how to walk so your knees don't hurt, how to sit to avoid fatigue, how to carry your head to avoid headaches.

On the Horse

In riding, position is the key to everything, and yet simply 'getting into a position' is the surest way to tank everything.  The awareness you will get through this 'work' will allow the position to come naturally and as a result of understanding how your body operates.

It will be as if your were 'glass blown from breath' as opposed to 'glass pressed into place.'

For the Horse

With the horses, they often have the same confusion about how to move - especially if they've been exposed to rigorous but incorrect training.  Their natural reflexes have gotten a bit cross-wired.  This type of work will allow them to find their original way of being and their original brilliance and beauty.

What's the Basis of This 'Work?'

The concepts provided in these sessions draw upon the Alexander based concepts from

  • "Living in a Body," a course I've taken which was developed and taught by Robyn Avalon, director of the Southwest Alexander Alliance,
  • Ortho-Bionomy® concepts learned in over 200+ hours attaining my Ortho-Bionomy®  Associate Member standing,
  • Equine Positional Release classes taken while attaining my Associate status with Equine Positional Release, and
  • my 20+ years of experience teaching  with the Alexander, Feldenkrais, & Tai Chi concepts utilized in Centered Riding®.

We are cups, constantly and quietly being filled. The trick is, knowing how to tip ourselves over and let the beautiful stuff out.

~ Ray Bradbury

"The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn, the bird waits in the egg, and in the highest vision of the soul a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities."

~ James Allen
